Why Galway?

Galway, also known as the City of the Tribes, is the fastest growing city in Ireland with over 72,000 inhabitants and 20% of those are students. Galway has retained a very strong connection with Gaeilge the Irish language with almost 10% of the population there speaking Gaeilge fluently. Galway is currently ranked as the top destination to visit in Ireland by The Lonely Planet Guide (2012). They describe Galway as being steeped in history yet with a contemporary vibe.

Students will study at NUI Galway during this semester abroad program.

Minimum GPA:

Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0
There are 2 aspects to entry requirements for Visiting Students:

1. General Entry Requirements
2. Pre-requisites for admission to classes

  1. General Entry Requirements for Admission as a Visiting Student

Visiting student applicants are normally required to have completed 2 full years at university or college before being admitted and to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)

2. Pre-requisites for admission to classes

When applying as a Visiting Student, applicants should indicate the classes they wish to enrol on at NUI Galway.  Students wishing to enrol on Science and Engineering courses will have their applications assessed by the relevant disciplines to ensure they have a suitable academic background and meet the pre-requisites required.

All other Visiting Students, including those selecting classes in the Arts, Humanities, Business and Social Sciences etc., are given a two week period at the beginning of each semester to sample the different classes on offer before making their final selections. In addition, Visiting Students are given a further ‘drop/add’ week. Once the deadline for dropping or adding courses has passed, no further course changes are possible.

Visiting students can generally expect to gain admission to the classes listed in the handbook subject to any pre-requisites as well as individual examination or timetable limitations. Certain classes, such as seminars may also be restricted to small numbers.

The NUI Galway International Students Orientation Day, which is held at the beginning of each semester, provides comprehensive information on:

⦁ Classes on offer
⦁ Pre-requisites timetables
⦁ Venues
⦁ Examination arrangements

Once you choose your modules, get in touch with your home institution and get the approval!

Please be advised that availability of classes is not guaranteed. At EZC we recommend all of our students select more classes than they will eventually take from the university book of modules (approximately 10 classes to start with). Approve all modules with your home institution before departure as this will allow you to have flexibility in scheduling when you register for classes on-site.
