Why Cork?

Cork, Ireland’s second city, known to its people as ‘The Real Capital’, has been listed by The Lonely Planet as one of the Top 10 places in the world to visit. A huge accolade for a small place but not surprising given the heart and atmosphere this city embodies. Cork has also been voted the third friendliest city in the world. Home to University College Cork, established in 1845 this award-winning institution is ranked in the top 2% of universities in the world. With the stunning Irish coastal landscape within easy reach and a young vibrant population, Cork is a top choice for your Study Abroad experience!

Students who choose to study abroad in Cork with EZC Study Abroad for a summer session will study at the University College Cork Summer School in Irish Studies.

The Summer School in Irish Studies in UCC aims to provide a unique learning experience by combining a rigorous introduction to major academic themes in the development of Irish identity with an opportunity to encounter Ireland’s rich cultural landscape.

During this summer program students explore key turning-points in Ireland’s history that shaped its destiny and identity, and examine how modern Irish writers of international significance sought to define a sense of cultural identity.

These themes are explored in lectures, seminars, and in a series of field trips, delivered by leading experts. Study tours are an integral part of the Summer School program and give students the opportunity to explore the beauty of the Irish countryside and to experience the places examined in lectures and seminars.

The program is conducted at upper division level, it is suitable for undergraduate and post graduate students of history and literature.

A full summer course load is 5 U.S. semester credit hours (2.5 U.S. semester credits in Irish literature and 2.5 U.S. semester credits in Irish history).
